Classical Meets Jazz * 9/1/2009 Enjoy nationally-acclaimed musicians that are performing at Red Rocks Music Festival. The classical musicians include David Ehrlich, Virginia Tech faculty member, violin; Nancy Buck, ASU faculty member, viola; Jan Simiz, of the Phoenix Symphony, cello; and Theresa Ehrlich, founder and director of the Renaissance Music Academy, piano. The Russell Schmidt Trio includes Russell Schmidt, piano; Dwight Kilian, base and Dom Moio, drums. The first half of the program offers the beautiful Piano Quartet No. 1 by French composer Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924). Along with the traditional clarity, poetry and restraint of the French tradition preceding it, Fauré’s music sounds refreshingly and presciently modern. Also a trio will perform the upbeat and exciting Café Music by American classical composer Paul Schoenfield (1947). This challenging work will showcase the musician’s virtuosity and provides a transition to the jazz portion of the evening. The second half of the concert includes jazz improvisations of the Russell Schmidt Trio in their collection titled, Moon and Stars. Familiar songs such as It's Only a Paper Moon, No Moon At All, Moontide and Star Dust will be the starting point for these masters of jazz improvisation. ![]() "Hearts in Harmony" Cabaret & Cake Show * 10/11/2009 Hearts in Harmony is a high-energy musical review featuring valley favorites Kevin Glenn and Martha Lindsey-Glenn, on vocals and Jim Whitaker on piano.
