Auditions - "Our Town" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr." (Musical Theatre of Anthem)

Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) announces auditions for their upcoming straight play, Our Town, for ages 13-adult, and the high-spirited musical romp, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., a no-cut production for ages 13-19.  Auditions for both will be held on August 4-5 in Anthem.

Our Town, described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,” follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life”, “Love and Marriage”, and “Death and Eternity.”  Performers may choose to audition for both Our Town and Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., and those not cast in Our Town will be cast in Millie. Our Town is directed by Zoni-nominee Laura O’Meara.  Rehearsals begin August 10, with performances taking place September 20-23 at MTA’s new theatre.

Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. is the zany new 1920’s musical that has taken Broadway by storm. Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.  The show will be directed and vocal directed by Shawna Weitekamp, and choreographed by Amanda Paige, both multi-AriZoni winners.  Sarah Brayer will be the production assistant. Rehearsals begin August 9, with performances taking place September 27 – October 7. 

Auditions for both shows will be held on Saturday, August 4 at 11:00 a.m.  The Dance Call for Thoroughly Modern Millie will be on Sunday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m., with callbacks at 11:30.  Callbacks for Our Town will be held on Sunday at 3:00.  Auditions, callbacks, and rehearsals will be held at MTA’s new theatre performance space at 42323 N. Vision Way, Anthem, AZ  85086.  Those auditioning should prepare a musical theatre song, 16-32 bars or one minute in length.  Bring an accompaniment CD or iPod to sing with; you may also sing a capella if needed.  Our Town auditioners need to prepare a one-minute monologue, as well as a musical theatre song.  Please have your registration materials (available on the website) completed prior to coming to the audition.  If you are unable to make the scheduled audition time, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Audition Preparation Acting Classes will be held for both shows by their respective directors.  Participants will be instructed on cold reads, acting technique, characterization and more. A ninety-minute group session for Millie will take place on Thursday, August 2 from 7:30 – 9:00.  Thirty minute One-on-One sessions for Our Town will be held on August 2 and 3.  Visit www.musicaltheatreofanthem.org to reserve your spot.  Space is limited.
